496 impeller housing

Just took apart the seawater pump, and the pump cover has some wear on it,its brass, not to deep, maybe 030 inch,is this normal, what can be done? Thanks

Its normal. I usually try and belt sand the rear cover to help get a new surface, theres not much you can do with the inside of the housing besides order a new on that comes with an impeller. Someone was talking about a stainless insert to put into these pumps but I cant remember who it was.

Do a search back on old posts for 496 impeller housings.
A firm in Lake Havasu sells inserts that worked very well for me.

Some light wear is normal, however if the gouges are deep enough it will damage the new impeller & it may not work at all.. The 496 pump housings dont seem to last as long as the older stuff did.. I liked the older ones with the replacable wear plates and rear housing.. then you had no worries.. ;) jamie / Lakeside Restorations
