Need new Alternators. What's the best?

1987 Merc TRS.
Exsisting alternators;
Port - Motorola (toast)
Starboard - Mando (works kinda)

The local auto electric shop doesn't like Mando or Motorola.
He said $150 to rebuild Motorola and he'd have to sell me a new Mando for $190. I don't like Mando's either and I don't want to buy a new one.
I would like to buy new. Question is what to buy? He recommended converting to Delco Remy one wire. I don't know how difficult this convertion would be.

Any recommendations?

The Question I have is it difficult to go from a 4 wire to a 1 wire? I also have an Mondo and it's give me all kind of strange results on the gauge.

Thanks
