Help with indicator light problem
I am having a problem with my indicator lights on my dash. I redid my dash and replaced
the indicator lights and most of the switches. The problem I am having is when you turn the batteries on, the indicator lights on the dash light up. When I flip the switch for the blowers or the lights or the bildge pumps the indicator light goes off. When I turn the switch off the light comes back on. Each switch has its own indicator light. Originally the lights only came on when the switch was turn on. I am having trouble trying to figure out what is wrong. The switches have two terminals on the end. one positive and one ground. I tried changing the wires to the other terminals it didn't make a difference. the toggle switch was just backwards. I switched the light wires and they didn't work. The light's red wire has to go to positive and the black to ground or it doesn't light. These are little LED lights. I know they do not draw much power, but I would like to get them only light up when the switch is turned on. I am not sure if need to try different switches? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. |
The hot wire for the indicator lights is wired to the wrong side of the switches.

Is the switch in upsidedown?

there are no ground wires on the switch, one lead is power from the battery switch the other is the power lead going to the component, the led lights have a positive lead and a ground lead, make sure that all the LED grounds are connected to a good ground and connect the other light lead to the component side of the switch not the battery side. that should solve your problem. just as griff said , with a little more detail.

Thanks for the replies. It make sense. I am going to move the LED wires and hook the LED grounds to a seperate ground.
I will let you know if it works. Thanks again, Greg |
