Will a 502 roller cam fit into a 454 non roller motor?I think it will as long as roller lifters, cam buttom and timing cover are aslo changed.Correct me if Im wrong.

Thanks Nordic95

if the 502 was a non roller cam engine in the begining, i think it will change over to the 454, i think the difference is gen 5 or mark 4 blocks,I'm sure others will chime in that know more about this.

anyone else with input?

If you have a Mark IV or a Gen V block, the "stock 502" roller cam (Gen VI) will not work without using aftermarket conversion roller lifters with fixed links. The Gen VI has raised lifter bores and accommodation for the spring plate that holds the lifter's alignment plates in place- a completely different design that will not work in the short bores of the IV and V blocks. If you use the 502 cam, you also need to use the stock Gen VI retainer plate. The cam has a cut-down nose that protrudes thru the plate. There is no cam button and no need to change covers- they don't interchange anyway. I'd also suggest a valve spring change. The stock one's aren't up to the velocities of the roller's ramp profile.

Bottom line- if you're going to spring for lifters and the valve springs you'll need, why not get a better cam?

Like sunkin said you will need the retro fit lifters and the cam button. The timing cover should not need to be changed.

I did this on my MK IV 454 and had no problems with the original timing cover. You will need to get new valve covers to get enough room for the roller rockers.will aso need diff push rods, and timing chain.
