Bravo 1 Carrier Bearing Removal
Can anyone tell me how I get the carrier bearing assembly out of the outdrive? I have drill the nut and broken it out successfully, but am unsure what to do next. I think the carrier is threaded in, but not sure if it has right or left hand threads. Pounding on it so far hasn't done a thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There is a carrier puller that pulls it out. It's not threaded. Not that you couldn't 'Jerry' rig something else up. The Merc pt # is
P/N 91-90338A1, in case the Merc site would show it, just for visual aides. The prop shaft stays in, with the puller hooking into the carrier and pushing against the prop shaft as leverage to pull the carrier out. It works more like a prybar, pivoting on the prop shaft. Jerry Just checked, no picture. Just a $54 pricetag. |
I bet you do a lotta "jerry riggin" don't ya US Fountian. Thanks once again for the help Jerry. I'm going to try a slap hammer first and if that doesn't work, I'll do it the right way.

I bought a "dent puller" kit from Harbor Freight. It comes with a slide hammer and three jaw adapter, which is what you'll need. Can't remember what I paid for it but, It was a hell of allot cheaper than theirs.

If the boats been in salt water a lot it might be necessary to add some heat to the outside of the drive, then you will have to repaint it though.
