Anchor Question

I have a Baja 36 Outlaw that I am trying to get set up for the season. I need an anchor and my boat doesn't have an anchor locker. I have looked at a dozen anchors on line, but one strikes me as effective and easy to use and store. That is the box anchor.
It folds up goes into a storage bag and does not require a chain, so the add says.

How effective are these? Is anyone using one?

If I go with a standard style anchor how much chain would be required?

One thing I do not understand is all anchors seem to be rated by boat length instead of boat weight. Why is this? A cruiser of the same length would be heavier and you would think harder to anchor.

Thanks Roger

i have a 33 fountain and the larger box anchor works GREAT!!!!!! ez to store and quicker than you think to set-up, also it held 4 boats of equal size as mine in light water while we partying!!!go get one!!!:) :) :) :)

Box anchor for sure. I was skeptical about it but figured I'd try it since the Danforth wasn't doing the job. I was blown away the first day I tried it. I go to one cove alot and everybody has trouble setting anchor (Danforth types), but first try for the box and it set and held all day. It is great in all bottom conditions. Ditch the Danforth.

It really depends on what kind of bottom conditions you have, me mainly mud so the fluke stlye works great.

Have a Fortress Aluminum, I think 11 lbs, vs 18-20 for steel.

Thanks just extra boat soda's;)

If you dont go the box anchor, get a fortress. Ive got the 11 lb one too and it has never failed me. Im even comfortable sleeping at anchor. If the wind shifts, It just resets every time. I use a 6 ft piece of vinyl coated chain and 250 ft of 1/2 twisted nylon for my 33 ft cruiser.

The Fortress anchor is very light in compared to
the steel. Fortress has optional mud palms for
known poor holding bottoms. I use the FX-11 also.:)

I am also a fan of the box anchor. The down side is that its a bit heavy for my wife. Even the small one is too much for her to drag up over the bow.
