Water pressure

I modified a set of Gil tail pipes and extended were the water would normally enter the exhaust. I also modified the openings were the water inters the exhaust. I have great water flow, but how much water pressure should I have on the water system. Or is the pressure gauge just to show that you have water flow.

I prefer 25psi at most myself and feel safe. Dealt with problems over 35 psi. I run right at 20-22psi now after fine tuning for WOT pressure by means of the Merc relief valve setup. My previous boat was 18psi max. 15-18 seemed to be a general census for good pressure with no threat of excess pressure issues.

The pressure gauge is used to measure just that... pressure. You can have tons of flow and zero pressure.
And likewise, tons of pressure and zero flow.

If you run a stock merc engine it should be at WOT 15-18 PSI.
