oil type
hey guys,
i am about to put new my new engine back in the boat and was wondering what to use for oil for now,i usally run and will run royal purple after i get some time on this motor, but for now i was thinking penzoil 20/50 ???any input is great, also thermostats 140 or a 160? |
Flat tappet camshaft or hydraulic roller (and new or used camshaft?)
New flat tappet cam and oil subject is all over - make sure to use something with a good load of ZDDP (Zinc) - I broke my last one in on Castrol HD30 and a bottle of comp cam's break-in lube... |
any good straight 40 weight,,, I run Valvoline VR1 racing

A break-in oil is simply one with a big dose of anti-wear additives and good detergency. ZDDP etc...you want to minimize initial wear get the seals to seal etc...it's for rollers and non-roller cams...
Since you are going to use Royal Purple...(good choice) use this for break-in...20 hours then Switch to 20W-50 RP. http://www.royalpurple.com/breakin-oil-m.html |
I wouldn't oil my kids bicycle chain with pennzoil.
|
this is a new roller set up
|
I run royal purple exclusivly also..but I have heard to break in new engines with something else, then change over at 1st change

Roayl Purple Synthetic is a very pure Group IV PAO with excellent additives. The Purple is just a dye is all.... my .02 |
