Oil Pan Options
I have 600sc's and I'm upgrading to Dart pro 1 ported heads and going 60 over. Hopefully this and a cam change will get me close to 700hp.
The question is should I be running 14 qt pans or can I get away with 10 quarts. It seems the gil 14 qt pans still only hold 10 quarts so I'm told. Is that normal of other larger pans as well? My 600's now only have 8 quart pans. I was thinking of going with the Canton 10 quart pans. They seem to be a good value at unde $400 Anyhow looking for suggestions and thoughts. |
I'd be more concerned with a quality oil cooler and the best possible plumbing (non-restrictive) than I would be with absolute volume. The engine doesn't know or care how much is down there. As long as it's got a constant supply of volume at good pressure and the oil isn't overheated, the motor will be happy. Helping the oil get back down to the pan is also more important. A crank scraper and a blueprinted block will help. Grind off flash from the passages and paint the upper galleys with epoxy- it helps get the oil back down faster.
