How much hp are you making with a 4150 base carb?
It seems that 700hp in 565-588ci motors is the fence for high flowing (1000cfm+) 4150 carbs before venturing into 4500 Dominator territory.
I'm just curious if anyone has some good dyno numbers running a 4150 base carbs of the HP1000 variety. It seems to be agreed that the 4150 base carbs are more fuel efficient and user friendly in a pleasure/performance application than their counterpart Doms. The Holley chart says the HP1000/4150 is the selection for 600ci/6000rpm motors. So why does everyone like the Dominators? It seems that giving up 10-15hp on top is a small price to pay for increased efficiency and mannerism across the board. :food-smiley-007: Normally I'm an EFI guy so this is somewhat new to me. I have the opportunity to go either way here (4150 or 4500) with what I have so I'm just trying to learn and make the bst choice. Thanks, Dave |
700 + h/p is not a problem for 4150's as most of the marine engines are on the low side when it comes to rpm, and yes the circuts are better for marine use as well...Rob

you do NOT want a 3 circut dominator, I got one for my top sportsman car after talking to holley, worked like crap..called back a couple of times before we figured out that we were not leaving the starting line on the floor on the trans brake ! only at 3000, any way a 3 circut carb is only designed for drag racing with a trans brake leaving flat on the floor...the other circut makes up for the lack of accel pump which is passed by at that point...I had to convert mine to a 2 circut and works great now...lots of mis conception on these carbs...Rob
