Boat would start but stumbled and quits???

1999 Baja 252 boss, 454 Mag, under 300 hours
boat has ran fine with no problems, ran out to a stop floated for about 30 min. then it started, but as i put it into gear is started stumbling and stopped, will crank but hits a few licks and dies.....some people are telling me Vaporlock?

really it was 95 degree's but it took about an hour to get back to the dock and it still did not work.....

dirty fuel filter?
fuel pump gone bad?? (whats the fuel pressure supposed to be on this motor?)

other ideas??

Does it have the Cool Fuel system???? Have you tried to start since????

Could be vapor lock or water in the fuel.

Carb or EFI?

multi port injecter, and hav enot tried yet, becasue i only have a low water pick up on the bravo one, and only have the old sty ear muffs to start in the drive way. looking for the one that fits my out drive so i can try it again.

If it starts and runs fine when cold, then vapor lock most likely.

That 30 minute stop with the engine off allowed that engine to "hot soak", and you most likely boiled the fuel in the fuel lines. Make sure your engine package has the Merc. update to prevent your vapor-lock condition.

There was a service bulletin and a fix campaign some time ago.

I NEED to find a flush thing for th out drive becasue it only has a low water pick up.. then i could try and start it again to see if that was teh problem.

Water in the fuel maybe. Try some dry das in the tank. I believe fuel pressure should be around 35-40 PSI for EFI.

Cogged fuel injectors?
Ethanol related problem? (old gas?)
Electric fuel pump? (use a fuel pressure gage to check pressure)
Sucked up sand into the fuel/oil coolers or thermostat?
