problem removing volvo engine from transom

I am trying to remove a volvo 5ltr from a 95 regal . I think I have all hoses/mounts and cables removed. It appears that the bell housing is held captive by the gimball housing and it should slide out ,but its not budging. Did I miss something? Thanks ,troc

a couple of things... the obvious stuff first... the dreaded hidden piece of hardware that you are missing but beyond that, the first time i had mine out, the guy that was helping me and actually knew what he was doing suggested pulling the drive shaft out, which in my case since we were having the drives off for insppection anyway was no big deal... and that simply assures that its not shaft pre load or spline rusted in the coupler etc...

Bell housing should have 2 bolts in it to the transom plate

Is it this style of transom assy ?

if so, you have to remove the bolts that hold item 13
in place, and remove item 13.

Or, you can unbolt the engine from the bell housing. and slide the engine ahead
enough to get the splines out of the coupler, and pull it.

pull the drive first, it will make life a lot easier when you go back in
