496 mag exhaust? anyone?
26 foot checkmate ZT, 496 mag corsa quick and quit for lake use.
moving to the ocean. can i remove all the guts from the inside of the threw hull and remove the restrictor from the riser without an issue? boat will be left in the water 75% of the time threw the summer. im told this mod should pick me up about 1 mph and make the boat sound much better. is this true? im also going to lab finish my 4 blade, so im hoping between the 2 i will gain 2-3 mph and gain some nice sound, but im not sure if this is safe to do. i would leave the black scupper on the out side. any info will be great. thanks |
I pulled out my turbulaters, sounds a lot better. I haven't had any issues.

If you boat is going to be in the salt water for a long period in between uses, do not remove the turbulators as this will lead to to much moisture accumulating in the exhaust manifolds and will rust the stock steel valves and seats leading to compression loss and big mechanocal problems!
Gutting your captains call internals will be a slight improvement to the exhaust flow but I doubt you'll see any measurable improvements in a 375HP 496. Best Regards, Ray @Raylar Best Regards, Ray @ Raylar |

How far from the ocean are you? going from a mountian fresh water lake to the salt water ocean by itself can pick you up 2-3 mph , depending on the altitude of the lake , and salt water is more boyent then fresh , boat will sit higher in the water = faster speeds , changing out muffler tips with reguler tips might get you 1 mph too , its different for all boats
hope this helps |
right now the boat is not mine, i share the boat so it spends a few weeks up north in the lake, when i have it i use it in the ocean 99% of the time. which is more then 50% of the time.
im hoping to buy the boat in full this season |
another question is , is it bottem painted ?
if your keeping in the water 24/7 , bottem paint is needed , and will slow you down , and wont help the value of the boat either :( |

Mine sits in fresh water on the weekends only. The rest of the time it is a garage queen. If you are in salt all the time, you should leave them in.
