solid as a piece of granite. They do vapor lock if it has the VST. have seen them go 800-900 hours without a rebuild. If you run it out quite a bit then refresh the heads every 300 hours.

ok,cool. im not sure but like i said i have heard people say the 502 is iffy, but i dont know why.
seems like they are good tho

rssteiny 08-05-2008 05:42 PM

as he said solid as a rock if they have the vst they do vapor lock after or during a long idle, but there is ways around that

502mpi mag

i have a 27fever w/502mpi.best thing about it is,get in it start it up,it idles, good dock maners, and gets great gas millage,2.5to3miles per gallon at 45mph.not the fastest boat, but super reliable.

obnoxus 08-05-2008 09:13 PM

The 2000 is not a VST motor its cool fuel,,, much better,,,,, darn thing will run 1000 + hours taken care of.

I would guess upper 60's low 70's in a 27'

noyzee 08-05-2008 10:59 PM

thanks for the info guys. im going to go look at the boat this weekend see how it is. we'll see

They tend to use a little oil, but I reduced the oil consumption on mine by switching to mobil 1 15-50.

2000 engines have cool fuel and don't have the vapor locking problem. Mine have 320 hrs and run perfect.

I have 1997 502 mags with about 370 hours and still run great.
Other than maintenance the only thing I had to do is replace both engine
water recirculating pumps because they were leaking.

fountainfevr 08-06-2008 09:30 PM

I have 502 in my 2000 27 I get great gas mileage. On the river I top at 67 on Ky lake I can hit 73 I have a 23 Hydromotive LH.

Pismo10 08-09-2008 09:43 AM

I concur, raw water pump needs replacing to the single piece unit.

I have a 2000, 27 Fever 502 mag mpi with a 24 B1 lh that bblades labbed for me and it will run 71mph. The motor has 230 hrs on it with zero problems. Get in and go !!!

28Eliminator 07-27-2009 04:55 PM

Mine had about 500 hours with half of that running a whipple . I had a valve seat let go, and I think that is the problem you may have heard about. Not ideal heads for supercharger application. They are great as they are designed with stock setup, but not setup for a supercharger. I rebuilt it using aluminum heads, and have about 50 trouble free hours on it, and expect many more. As Griff stated, they like to use oil, but mine uses less using mobile-1 15-50 as well.

RaceRPM 07-27-2009 08:54 PM

Mine are 2001 502's with about 410 hours. Replaced both engine water recirculating pumps due to small leaks, and replaced one alternator in 2004. Engines have always run great. Also using Mobil 1 15W-50.

460 hours and still running great, with no signs of deteriotating performance or more oil usage.

JoePcone 07-29-2009 01:02 PM

Mine has about 600 hours on it, It smokes quite a bit on take off, not sure if that's normal or not for these engines. But it still keeps right at 70mph on the speedo no problem.
