Rusty Water after layup? How dangerous?

I have been unable to run my boat the past three months (health issues). I went down this past weekend just to start the motors on the rack. When I began flushing the engines before turning them over there was a period of minimally rusty water that ran out of the outdrives. It did not appear too substantial but there the worry begins....... Is there anything I should / need to do other than just run them as normal. The engines are 502MPI's with about 150 hrs on them. 90 in the past two seasons. Any suggestions?

There are probably fine. The engines will rust when they sit. That it why it is good to fill with anti freeze during lay up even if freezing is not an issue.

Try to run them more. Good luck

Would I fill from the flush valve?

Its only worth doing if its going to sit for a couple of months or more. You can fill from flush, pour in t stat housing hose or run in after you drain the water. I pour in hoses.

Surgery is scheduled for next Tues, then a couple weeks recovery then I have a WHOLE LOTTA BOATIN' catching up to do this year. I went in the first time after the TOC.

Thanks for the help.

Mine throw a rust cloud in the water every time I start up after sitting a couple of weeks....No problem

Jeff, good to hear from you. Wondered what was up. Hope everything is okay. Let us know when you are ready to catch up.

You have fresh water cooling and water stands in the cast iron engine block. From not using the boat, it picked up some rust, pretty normal, not much to worry about.

Not an issue.
