I use aluminum 8 lbs flywheels and they work fine. Biggest advantage I see is less weight in the boat. Others use 30+lbs steel. At best you are splitting hairs...most/all comments based on opinions with very little fact...I don't have any either

I have talked/dealt with 1/2 dozen racers in the course of doing gear treatments on bravos,everyone of them was running fidanza aluminum flywheels,don't know any pleasure boaters running them but I ran one on my last boat,a non chevy powered jet boat and it revved like a suzuki when it came out of the water,Smitty

I ran alum flywhell on an old 632" NA motor with no issues. As artic stated...they rev incredibly fast when the load is off...You will definately get peoples attention any time you free rev it...
With big cams around the dock they can be a bit touchy...meaning a touch of throttle in gear for idle, etc goes a.....long.....ways...

Aluminum is great for someone highly skilled on throttles who needs that extran 2 seconds of acceleration out of each turn on the racecourse and is willing to live with the idle and free-rev issues.
