Update to water in Cyl - Un-believeable!
I had water in #6 cyl. Read the thread: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=192981
Just got off the phone w/ Joey Griffin. He said he has never seen anything like it. (Uh-Oh here it comes) He said the water passages in the heads are all eaten up. Head gasket is fine. He asked me what I flushed my motor with. I told him I flush EVERY TIME w/ fresh city water for about 5 - 10 minutes then flush w/ Salt Away for a few more minutes and then leave Salt Away mixture in motor as recommended on label. Motors were rebuilt in '05 and now have 100 hours on them. Heads were fine then. Joey Griffin recommends the new Eldebrock alum heads as they are coated like the Merc heads. |
That is truly Un-Believeable , Sorry to hear. Take a look at the AFR 315 CNC or the 305 CNC heads the flow #'s are better than the Eldebrocks.

Dart's Pro 1 Marine heads are hard coated as well and will out flow the edelbrocks.

you need to have your mercathode system checked out, most likely electrolytic action is the culprit

What says it all? I don't understand.
Mercathode is for when boat is in the water and is there to protect outdrive - yes? http://outdriveshop.com/mercathode.html I have 2 brand new mercathode blue controller units on transom and power to them was confirmed, and they are wired correctly. In the pic, the one is not wired up because transom assembly/motor is out of the boat when pic was taken. |
Damn shame it rotted out before you wore it out.
Maybe thats why some diesels put zincs in the motors water passages. |
