Choosing props for a 29' Baja Outlaw?

I need help choosing the right props for my 29’ Baja Outlaw. Boat is powered by twin 454 Mag MPI’s. Currently I am running 25P 3 blades. They are slightly abused with some minor dings in them. I am only pushing about 4100 RPM’s with these. I am looking for some feedback to what is the best fit for this setup. I am leaning toward 4 blade props but unsure of the pitch I should use. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Those are the wrong props. You need Mirage Plus 23" or Bravo 1 22". You need to see 4400-4600 RPMs.

The Mirage Plus will give you better top end speed and the Bravo1s will give wicked mid range acceleration and a lower cruising RPM at the same speed.

I have a good friend with the same boat, so I am sure about this. We changed his exhaust and hit the rev limiters with the Bravo 1s.

At 4100 RPMs you're not in your engines power band.

Somethings wrong. With 454 mags you should be able to turn those props in the upper 4000 rpm range. My dad had a '97 with carbed 300 hp 7.4 engines and he was turning 25 pitch mirages 4600 rpm. I would try to find another set of 25s to try before I spent money on smaller props.

Good point. Maybe the tachs are wrong.

I agree twin 454 mags should spool up 25s more than 4100 rpm. A 454 mag likes 4600-5000 rpm. What speeds are you seeing?

The props are a little banged up which is probably why the RPM's are so low. My top speed is only about 67. I was told this boat should do about 73 or so. I just would hate to buy new 25's and not be happy with them.

Well 4100rpms with a 25 pitch prop has a theoretical speed(0% prop slip) of 65. So if you are doing 67 then I would guess your tachs are off.

And/or using the happy speedometer...

Or he may have 1.36 gears in his uppers, verify that there 1.5 have you checked the ratio in the drives, might also explain why he's not able to get the rpm's out it at that speed. Steve
