GoldCap is for extendeded automobile users. Out to 15,000 mi.

I think Siver cap with more frequent changes is better for the marine environment engines.

It's $10-$11/qt...if you are having a hard time getting it check the Autobarn.

V-Twin is overkill but bigger is better!

Here's some first hand feedback of how the 15-50 Silver Cap stacks up to the V-Twin, 750 blower motors with oil coolers on the small side for the power.

Last season, I ran nothing but the V-Twin, fantastic oil, oil pressure not affected at all by oil temps (no more than 260-270 deg) I was changing it every 15 hrs.

This season decided to try the 15-50 Silver Cap (can't find Gold Cap) If I'm running the boat easy, the oil seems to work well, still holding great oil pressure with occational oil temps to 230. Changing the 15-50 every 10 hrs.
On my last oil change, I had run the boat extremely hard, 6 hrs of Poker Running, extended 5600 rpms (oil temps @ 270 deg) for miles on end. The last five hrs I ran it pretty hard also.
At 11 hrs of running the 15-50 very hard, it was done. when oil temps rose to 230+ the oil pressure would drop significantly (down to 35 lbs above 4000 rpm, Idle psi down to 15. When given a chance to cool, oil pressures are normal (40 idle 65 at 5600)
I just changed the oil again (15-50) yesterday, everything is fine, no loss of oil pressure.

Hydrocruiser, do you agree with my theory that the 15-50 could be used up at 10 hrs under the above conditions? I really don't think I've got motor problems as all is well with a fresh oil change.

Love the oil threads!:drink:

Sounds like you need to stick with the top shelf stuff, the VTwin.

Youe engines are shearing the oil down and you have a justifible case for going to V-Twin 20W-50

About 50% more $$$ gold cap. I have been using silver cap since it came back out. I used the old/same formulation before that. About $23 at walmart for a 5 qt jug.

Biggus, sounds to me like it was just worn out. It sounds like it was fine and the boat was ran hard. I can't see any reason not to use it and just change it frquently unless its cost probitive. It probably won't be since the V twin is a lot more $$$
