F.Y.I. I am not at 580+ hours since I responded to this thread and still running the same as when I got the boat. Actually a little faster then ever before since the props have been done by BBlades. I use the Merc 25w-40 synthetic blend and change every 40 hours and use the Amsoil oil filters EAO25s with Filter mags.

Have to trust the seller, they have their reputation on the line. They mentioned there's a big difference between hrs on such motors vs 'history'.

Wow, this thread goes back to 2008! That being said, the cam lifts in the Mag engines is very mild - only about .480. They should run for at least 600-800 hours before even thinking about a rebuild. Roller lifters should last a long time - they routinely go 200K+ miles in trucks.
The thing to watch for is leaking riser gaskets on the Merc wet joint exhaust. More motors have been killed by water leaking back into the engine and leading to a dropped exhaust valve than probably any other cause. |
