525SC question
 

I am purchasing a boat with 525 SC motors with 400 hours on them. They look and run excellent and the previous owner says they have never had problems and were maticulously maintained. I absolutely beleive him. That said, my question is what kind of freshening up or maintenance should be required with these particular motors to keep them reliable for another 400 hours? I appreciate your suggestions.......

I really like mine. For a blower motor its a pretty reliable engine, requiring only normal maintenance.

Would that be a 32 AT with 525SC's that is down in TX??????

They are great engines. If it has been in salt, check the Gil exhaust manifolds for internal cracks just below the riser cand pull the intake manifolds and inspect the water jackets where they meet the heads. Change the Blower Lube at least every 50 hrs. Other than that, normal maintenance.

I know I am a newbie, but listen to the guy who recommends letting an experienced tech check them out.
I just bough a Checkmate, now I am no mechanic, but I have had boats for years, and myself and several other boat buddies sea trialed this boat all thought it sounded and ran great.

I am now into this for a new 540, new CMI exhaust and a rebuild on the drive. My problems I am convinced were covered up by the seller and i got taken. I think I bought the boat cheap enough where it wont effect my overall finances in relation to the boat, but with a boat the security of knowing it is done right is key. no one wants to get stranded.

I took my bad motor out over the weekend and all the hoses and bolts were really loose. I mean the motor mount on the port side was finger tight. I only mention this stuff and the guy who soled me this lied about everything. I mean everything. He welded the Imco manifolds and repainted them without pressure testing- he even stamped the out drive rebuilt with a 2006 date and now that it is apart it is clear it wasn't done.
Just protect yourself so you dont do what I did and go from a 8000.00 fun project to a 18000.00 boat that will still need carpet and upholstery to even come close to being worth what have in it.

I thought about taking a serious at look at that one a few times before I got mine. I really like my 32 AT with 502mpi's, but sometimes I still miss the blower whine I had in my Pantera.

Seriously, if it has seen ANY salt, pull the intakes. Mine saw salt for the first 200 or so hours and was flushed after every use. I tore down the top end at 350hrs and the water passages were in very bad shape.
