Winterizing 454mag
Winterized my boat today (1999-mercruiser 454mag) and want to make sure I did it correctly. I only found 3 plugs---two on the block and one to the power steering cooler (I believe). This was two plugs fewer than my last 454. So I got nervous and started disconnecting hoses. I disconnected the hoses to both exhaust (water came out both), water pump hose (water standing inside hose), and disconnected the lower hose to the sump (water came out). I can't think of any where else water can be standing. I could not find a web site for winterizing the 454 mag and I don't have the manual. The boat (arizona boat) has never had to be winterized till now. I guess I could wrap x-mas lights around the block to be safe. Any tips on winterizing would be greatly appreciated. Making sure I didn't leave any hidden water any where.

Did you run antifreeze through it??????????
|
Yes I ran the pink stuff.....just making sure I didn't over look any place with standing water.

Did water come out after you ran AF through it???????? It takes 4-5 gallons to fill the entire system.

2 block plugs, 2 exhaust plugs, two hoses off the raw water pump, the big hose of the recirc pump, start it for a second, you're done. < 5mins. Salty, fill it with AF.

2 block plugs, 2 exhaust manifold plugs, one plug on the fuel cooler (lower port side of the motor). If you also pulled the big hose off the bottom of the recirculating pump (water pump on motor) and the lower hose on the seawater pump, you got enough water out to be OK.
