Oil in Puke tanks Blower motor

Heres some picks of My Motor Pucke tanks, one has a little more oil other is clean.

Is the one that has some oil in it cosidered norn?

Ill post the leak down when I get the paper work.15 % was the highest. one

Young Performance 11-24-2008 11:23 PM

It really depends on how high it is mounted above the valve cover. If it is several inches above the cover, then no it is not normal. Was the 15% on a cold engine that has not been run for a while. That still seems a little high. It all depends on the rings. I use Total Seal Gapless and it is VERY rare to see over 5%, even on a cold, haven't been run in months engine.

Eddie I did both motors at the same time, so this one was the last to get cked, prob was cooler.

Its looks like it around 3 inches higher than the fitting.

colder

also remember these are real loose p to c

The starboard engine is right where it needs to be. The port is a little high, but not enough to say something is wrong. When you say cold, do you mean an hour or 2, or a month or 2. When I say cold and hasn't been run, I mean for a month or 2. At 3 inches higher than the valve cover, I wouldn't think it would push any oil in it.
When you did the leakdown, could you tell where the air was leaking from. If you hook it back up, open the throttle blades and listen at the tailpipe for air. If you can't hear it in those places, then block off all of your breather openings real good and see if the leakdown gauge goes down. You will also get a rush of air when you uncover the breather hole. This means it is going past the piston.

Rob ... Take those Puke tanks out and put breathers on ....Helps keep Corrosion down in the Engine Room .... :)

Maybe if you slow down and stop making us other Hustler guys look like we are idling (at 90 MPH) you wouldnt have these issues!!!

The numbers look good especially for a cold engine!

Eddie it was right after I did the other side, not warm,When I did the leak down I was looking to see if there was something bad before pulling them out, The piston to cylinder wall clearance has been high, loose, I just don't want to buy a new blocks now$$, on this bore its been honed 3 times, the rings haven't been showing much wear just touching the centers, looks like it had some more seating to do,might just dingleberry it to reseat them? less metal taking out of walls.,Iv got 104 hours on this ring and bearings, kinda a preventive maintenance thing and I couldn't handle the water spots ,so reploishing everything:rolleyes::drink:

RunninHotRacing158 there the regular total seal rings, non gapless,

Total Seals also . No puke tanks Ran a set of J E rings once never again. Its a alot more for the gapless rings but the oil stays alot cleaner and I have never fouled plugs.
Just MY 2

32agitator 11-27-2008 05:39 PM

i run speed pro rings with alot of ring gap on my 32 skater 15psi boost @7500 rpm will have blowby in puke tank let it happen thats what puke tanks are for at least the rings wont expand and butt together it makes big power 1230 hp 1140 lb torque its old school roots blower set up but if it aint broke dont fix it

You still have to run a gap with total seals its just a two piece ring. The lower the block pressure the less power it takes to turn the rotating assembly.Thats why you make more power with a dry sump set up allmost negitive pressure.Robs problem seems to be high leakage on one engine.
Also if your running to much piston to cylinder wall clearance your rings wont last as long. :drink:

:eek:mmmmmmmmmmm really

Yeah........REALLY!!!

Rob, what do you call loose as far as piston to cylinder clearance? Why do you have to replace the blocks? What is the bore now? If they are Gen VI blocks, they can go to 4.600. All and all, even at 15% on an sc engine with over 100 hours, that's not bad.

32agitator 11-29-2008 08:59 AM

i agree that dry sump makes alot more power cause of less windage i run procam oil pans on my boats they are made my baker in michigan best oil pan for wet sump setup

Can you post a pic of that oilpan ?

I got a piar of 598's that will leak less than 5% right now. 14 holes will go less than 3%. They have not been fired in a month. So will Joe Murray's 598's.

I figured 15% was soso,Also meaning nothing is hurt. Gen 6 2001,The pistons call for 6.5, most are around 8 one is 10 and 11.theres alittle scuffing on the pistons, its been like that for the last 2 ring jobs, one is 30 and one is 60, I was thinking taking the 60 over to 70, but they say they don't make rings for them. I really didn't want to go past 70 over.I'm scared of it being thin.I see they make a ring for a 4.560.I wonder if thats a off the shelf piston?

thats dayum G@@d #s BIG Daddy ,must be them big hp motors  cause down here fresh off the dyno there seeing 8 to 10 %

maybe we should use these Speed Pro plasma for a game of ring toss :ernaehrung004:

i will post a pic soon

You can Also try C&A rings.

I have 2 builds on Childs and Albert rings they have a zero gap setup very similar to speed pro.

Looks like they have your size as well.

Yeah 15% is the early end of getting tired.
Not bad, but not new. Another season it will probably be time.

It's not Speed Pro rings, they are Total Seal Gapless TS1.

Young Performance 11-30-2008 08:56 AM

Rob,
The 4.560 is a shelf piston. You should not have any problems going that big. Like I said, I regularly take Gen VI blocks to 4.600. I have taken a few to 4.625, but they do get a little thin. Have the block sonic checked and be sure to leave at least .200-.250 wall thickness. It all depends on how much core shift the block has as to how thick it will be. You will have one side of the cylinder wall that is thicker than the other side because of the shift. The other deciding factor is salt water corrosion from the back side. Salt water will eat the back side of the cylinders and make them thinner. So in theory, a fresh water block will have thicker cylinder walls than a salt water block.
Eddie
