Offshore 420 6.2L 426-437HP
http://www.boatstoreonline.com/420_main
http://www.boatstoreonline.com/OFFSHORE420.html Trying to find out more information about these motors. Has anybody used them? Does anybody see any potential problems with the way this engine is set up? Who makes it? 87 octane, 2 year limited warranty - 5 year exhaust, 547lbs weight, pricing starts at $15,900......I'm impressed and would like to know more. Most importantly, is this engine built by a builder you can trust? http://www.boatstoreonline.com/1000hrs.html Check out the 1000hr program. Make it to 1000hrs and they will rebuild the engine for $1,500. Thanks in advance |
While I'm at it - what do you think about these http://www.boatstoreonline.com/mp502.html 502 415hp.

well the pics in there site are just a small block ?? now GM is releasing a 6.2 marine engine thats based on the LS engines, not what they are showing....and they are going to have a hard time getting the power and reliability out of small blocks in a boat compaired to big blocks..

Marine Power has a very reliable product.
Check out this video about the 502 engine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxb_L...eature=related I'm thinking we may have a winner. |
I think that red 502 pictured is what marinepower calls their X-motors......500hp.....it looks just like a 500EFI. http://www.bayshorepowermarine.com/e...rinepower.html - see bottom of page - I think both the motors look pretty sweet. Everything I've researched so far seems to be good. There was a OSO member who put 700hrs on some MP 454's. Its about $7000 less than a merc 496. I know you usually get what you pay for, but I'm not really impressed with the reliability of merc's 496. The company is based out of Louisana and the engines are much more popular with yachts, fishing, and ski boats.
Perhaps By U Boy will expand on his post a little since they are built in his neck of the......By U:drink: |
I have been around marine power engines for 15 or 16 years now and everything I know about them are great.
When I rebuilt my merc 454 2 summers ago my first stop was at marine power. Marine power is a standard engine for Tige' and other ski boats. Factory support is good and semi local to you. The 502 makes good power and has a few nice featurs like closed cooling, cam mounted water pump,2 oil filters. They also have a EFI 572 that may be cheaper than than merc's 496. What they are a good friend of the mine:drink: |
