Raw Water Pump Change over

My express crusier has 454 330HP engines with Alfa drives.

Can I elimate the outdrive pumps and install crank mounted pumps and through hull water pickups for better cooling ?

How reliable are the crank mounted pumps?

I would leave them ,just make shure that the impeller is good.

I would put a water press. gauge in the boat ,thatway u be more secured.

But they work fine and actually are lower in the water then other PU .

Sounds like a lot of work and money for nothing. The pumps in the Alpha's should pump plenty of water.

well to buck the other replys, you can do it if you want, need to put a scoop type thru-hull in the bottom of the boat, seacock on the inside along with a strainer, then mount up either a std merc inboard/bravo or crusader pump and braket setup, but the only thing i see you would gain would be the ability to change the impellor with out pulling the boat out of the water, unless the internals of the drive is corroded badly...Rob

BajaExpress, if you decide to go with crank mount pumps, I have 2 brand new Johnson F5B-9 crank pumps that I will sell.
