John,
Contact Bob Madera aka RMBuilder. He can spec the parts to turn your 525 into a 540 cu/in that will produce aprox. 660-680 hp. He has done it many times. His number is: 585-654-8583. Chris |
Personally, I would either put a supercharger on it or leave it alone and pull it out and build something. If you put the blower on, you can always take it off to sell the boat.If you go to a 540, there is no going back. In order to make another 100 hp NA, you will probably spend damn near 10K to do it right and make it reliable.

Thanks everyone. i wish I could sell this motor or find a used whippple kit

John,
I would definately save the money up and buy a whipple kit. By far the easiest hp per dollar. If you are looking to spend a little money over the winter for a few mph, I would look at a shorty IMCO lower and Hering props. Shorties can be had used, and a Hering prop is aprox $1400. I am sure you could pick up 2-4 mph. I also believe that someone makes a ECM upgrade for the 525 motor that is worth a couple mph. Chris |

I already have a shortie sportmaster on the boat

The biggest problem to overcome is the PCM. You start making changes and it needs to be reprogrammed. Dustin is the only one who can do it, and I don't think he's done a lot with the 525. He uses a Mefi4 on his SC kits. The 525 makes about 560 hp on the dyno as it is. So, you're not going to gain a lot of HP without making major changes. Stroking it to a 540, port the heads and a different intake system could get you around 650 but you'll spend more than a supercharger. It's just not worth it. I would either sell the 525 and build a custom engine, go with the Whipple or just leave it alone and lie about your speed....

Listen to the masses... :D Out of every type of power adder I've installed nothing will give you the satisfaction of a supercharger. With anything else you'll end up spending at least 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of the whipple kit and get 1/4 of the performance gain. Your motor already has a great bottom end for a mild blown application and if you're even thinking about taking it apart and stroking it you're already over the cost of a whipple. The kits are so complete and bolt on you literally only need to provide the tools. Just do it! :evilb:
