Stnd. CMI tails Wet to Dry Conversion

Anyone ever converted a set of tails from wet to dry. It seems to me that a good welder (or CMI) could close up the 4 water exit holes, maybe leave one open, and install a bung in order to send the water out a thru hull on the transom. Surely someone has tried this... Thanks!

I have had riggers tell me that this works, but I have never tried it myself. Also we were talking about GILS and not Cmi's but, I don't see what the difference would be.

I talked to CMI about modifying them to dry, which would require cutting them up and extending them. Their concern was if one interal water dump was enought to keep the rubber boot cool. It seems like there would be a different material that would resist the heat better.

Dry tails need to be water jacketed all the way through the transom. The ends would need to be cut off and then extended with both the inner and outer walls.
