Arneson Rocker Plates????? Do they work well???
I am looking for some advice on Arneson rocker plates. I am running a setback box and a IMCO drive on a single engine V with a pad and I am having trouble getting my bow up. Do you think these would help? I know they are totally different than tabs but how would you compare them to K-planes or big Dana tabs? I was thinking about adding some rocker to my pad and I am still trying different props but I was just wondering how these would work!!

Ever think about lowering your drive some?
This usually gives more leverage, and lifts the bow. What is your prop-shaft depth in relationship to your keel? Chris |
I have a 12 inch setback box and my prop shaft is 3 1/2" below the pad.

I would add a 1 inch spacer. They are cheap, and easy to do. In another prop thread, you said that you were running a 6 blade prop, and it still was handeling poorly, and not hooking up. This screams "prop too far out of the water" !! Your boat would be faster with a 4 blade and a deeper prop-shaft. A 5 blade will have more midrange speed. but usually loose out to the 4 blade on the top end, if the outdrive is set at the correct depth. Chris |
No..either I said it wrong or you read it wrong but the 5 and 6 blades hook up fine!! I need to try a Maximus...I think that is going to get me fixed up. I may need to space down also. My prop shaft is 3 1/2 inches below my pad. The 4 and 3 blades blow out..not the 5 or 6 blade. The boat just does not carry the bow and tries to leap around the high 80s and 90 mph range. I have talked to a guy about buying a spacer to try. I am also getting a Maximus prop. I can get this fixed..I was just wondering if anyone had tried the rocker plates and what they thought about them.

In my experience, the rocker plates do not help a lot with bow lift.
Spacers help a lot with bow lift. When you say "leap around" are you talking about the whole boat? Is it just the rear?, or is the front end darting to one side or the other? sometimes giving a nervous sensation. Chris |
The boat rocks back and forth from front to back like a rocking chair. It lifts the bow...then falls on it's face up..down..up ...down...it does when you are going high 80 and up it gets to where it makes you think the bow is going to dig in and spin you out. no side to side,,,none of that.....no chine walk at all....i little bit of prop torque problem when accelerating wanting to lean the boat...just a very little.

You might be outrunning your hull...inter strakes too short? How much faster are you running than the original top speed when new? If you are 15-20 MPH faster than stock, you are likely a candidate for some bottom work. At what speed do you start to porpoise? |
That is called porpoising. It might be able to be fixed with a prop. It can definately be fixed with a spacer.
