Lift Eyes
We need to come up with a set of lift eyes for the deck of a large cat. If memory serves, one of the magazines promoted a folding lift eye that was flush with the deck when lowered. However, memory does not give me any other details. Can anyone suggest a sanitary alternative, or recall which magazine ran this promo?
Thx |

Thx Also i think the realy shouldn't be because of the load on them,,,,i would not thrust a folding lift hook?! |
Thx DareDevil. Do you have any pictures?

I have a set I just took of my 40 Skater, mine are heavy duty racing eyes thru bolted thru hull into big metal plate

flush mounts
there is a type that flush mounts and attaches at the bottom using a piece of 5/8x11 threaded rod that goes to a piece of angle that you must supply. typically the angle mounts to the stringer or bulkhead. seen a supercat team use them. but you might wanna make sure the actually pop-up eye is mounted solidily with the diagonal load on the lifting eye it was elongating the hole in the deck because of the side force. i can get the model # for above.
the other way is to call marine machine and they can make almost anything you want. |
SkaterDave, are you saying the lift eye does not attach to the deck at all?
|
correct
yes the spring loaded flush mount lifting eye attaches to the deck with just 4 small screws or flat head machine screws. the load is carried by the piece of threaded rod that is attached to something structual. ie stringer or bulkhead

Thx for the info - do you know of a website where I can see them?

I use the Accon pieces for the bow area & transom mounted lifting eyes. Due synthetic slings (nylon, polyester) don't like sharp or square corners and this can damage the actual fibers inside the sling. at least with the nylon slings you could see the damage when it occurs unlike the poly slings since they have a cover. atleast a regular Crosby shackle will provide some radius and they also make plastic corner pieces where you have the slings wrapped over top of the beam. this is why you see alot of iron workers still using the old school steel wire slings and chokers |
Thank you gentleman - that is exactly what we were looking for.
|
okay
due, it looked that you were putting the sling thru the hole in the transom lifting eye. if that is the case, i was just pointing out that the fabric type slings are not designed to be rigged that way. they actually make special shackles for fabric(synthetic) slings. most guys just use a bigger shackle to distribute the load. i would hate to see the boat swing just a little of a period of time, which could cut thru the sling. i watched a lot of people on jobsites rig things improper with bad results.
