Painting 496 engine covers
I was thinking about painting my 496HO engine covers. Anyone done it? I was wondering about peeling being that they are somewhat flexible. The aftermarket covers seem a bit overpriced. I was thinking a little color could make the stock ones look ok.

I tried painting mine with a spay can and it didn't turn out to good. Started to crinkle after first time out. Then took to the body shop and had them strip and spray them. Turned out great. No problems with peeling. The nice thing about painting is you have a bigger variety of colors. Just start looking around at all the vehicles on the road and pick a color that you like.

wipe them down them with denatured alcohol and try the krylon for plastic....Rob

Use a good automotive paint like PPG and an adhesion promoter. You shouldn't have any problems.

I know this sounds cheap but, Krylon fusion will stay on there for ever, I run the product on Jeep flares that have been very abused with no cracking or peeling.

Thanks

I paint from time to time and have painted alot of bolt ons. If you want to do it yourself and have any experience spraying automotive paint, I have had good luck using primer for plastic, adding "flex agent" to paint and spraying. I always use Dupont Chroma Base/Clear products.
On the other side of that is I have used the rattle can "Fusion" paint mentioned above with good results so far. Just limited on colors. |

I've been thinking the same, all black seems a little to ordinary. I like the looks of these painted covers done by Sunsation along with the other dress up mods. I would also like to know where they get the coolant tank covers?

The covers come from F&M custom cowlings. Here is there site. I am placing a order today. http://www.customcowlings.com/
