Is this a big deal conversion?
I am restoring a old Moesly Seacraft Offshore hull 21' It originally came with a I/O and I want to keep it that way. All the old stuff is gone.
My main thought originally was to buy a complete Mercruiser package with the out drive. I want the 5.7/6.0 MPI. However like almost everyone else in the market my 401k is now a 401 so I am looking to save a few dollars if possible. There are a few Crusaders Captains Choice 6.0 MPI out there for a very reasonable price (low low hours) with direct drive trannys. Would it be a big hassle to get this engine to accept a bravo 3 out drive? What would be the challenge of getting the exhaust to line up to the out drive?? Or do I do something like a Captains choice? Or do I look for a take out on a complete package. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, |
I would think that you will be ahead to buy a complete I/O set up. This will have all of the associated hardware you will need. Buying a direct drive setup and all the other parts will most likely cost you more.

I agree totally with Darrell. The little parts will nickel and dime you to death.

New or used complete package. There are some nice specials on new out there if you look. Any suggestions to who has good packaging prices? I live in SW FL. When looking on the web you can find a lot of places, but it is always nice to work with someone that comes as a recommendation. Thanks for the input. |
try looking into salvage boats that are badly damaged, but ebgibe drive usable, even if you need to go thru would save $$ in the long run as you would have everything you need..Rob

I read somewhere (i think here) that merc dropped there transom/drive assembly prices by 50% maybe more. So the best bet him be to call a local dealer and see what a price on one of those would be. Then you would have everything that you needed and wouldn't have to piece together anything.

Try calling Donnie at Offshore Performance. He is in SE Fla. and has both new and pull outs. I'm sure he would have something that would work for you. Tell him that Eddie from Young Performance sent you. His # is 239-48-0884, ask for Donnie(his dad is Don, but talk to Donnie)
