12 inch oil cooler

I'm looking for a mercruiser part number for a 502 gen6 about500 hp. The stock oil cooler bundle is 9 inches and I have a guy that will make me one 12 inches long ,does any one know of a mercruiser oil cooler that will handle this engine. Thanks Alec

The stock one will handle it.

I've got a stock p/s and oil cooler for $50. I thought you had a super charger.

Oil cooler function varies greatly based on the direction of the oil flow vs the waterflow. Counter-current flow removes much, much more heat. Flow in the same direction less. So if you want to cool as much as possible make sure it is opposite flowing, if less needed then....

I use the EMI oil/ps combo cooler. It works much better than the stock cooler.

Cooling efficiency?

I was just reading how counter flow in the oil cooler is more efficient in removing heat....
Would that also be true to coolant heat exchangers in closed cooling 350 chev mercruiser?
Cheers

Yes if it is real counter flow. If it goes in and goes back and forth then you really can't have counter flow. If it goes in, divides up into a dozen little tubes that all flow in the same direction, then you can flow the water the opposite way and have more efficient cooling. Depends on the exchanger.

Where are you mounting it? Bell housing, front of engine? Lenco has an enhanced 502 mpi cooler (500hp) fits on front of motor in stock location which allows it to be run after fuel cooler...a great deal & US made @ $200.

If you want a stock 12" with all hoses, pad adapter, filter adapter, etc....I have it like new cheap, BUT, I would feel better with a bigger setup for 500hp unless you run in cooler waters. An oil temp guage is a nice addition. I would say my stock setup was just adequate for my 415hp MPI in warm midwest waters after a hard run. Take Care, Dave
