Need help removing K-Planes.

The snow is melting and boating season is coming!!!

I need to remove my K-Planes from the transom of my boat. I have removed all the necessary bolts. The sealant used from the factory is very strong and I am afraid that if I "pull" them off it may take some of the gel coat/fiberglass with it.

Any hints or secrets for easier removal?

Thanks

I just removed mine to have them powdercoated. I just pulled like hell - nothing came off except the K-planes..

try a length of piano wire, the thinner the better. Wrap your hands with something or wear heavy gloves and work the piano wire back and forth between the plate and the transom. Takes a while but will eventually cut through.

We have always used a heat gun. When you warn the piece up nicely (maybe 120 deg F) you can remove it easily. DON'T let the heat cun hit the paint or gel. You don't have to be as careful on the powder coat.

I like the wire idea. Maybe heat and the wire for tough situations.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'll try a combo with the heat gun and the piano wire.
