fuel regulater and carb ???

I have a non - bypass fuel regulator, I called mallory talked with the tech he told me I did not need a bypass with a single carb. I believe the pump will dead head and not last long but the tech feels different. Does anyone runs a small fuel pump like a mallory 140 without a bypass. Also has any ran a qiuck fuel 850 carb I was told they are much better than a holley 800 carb, I know that the quick fuel carb is not a marine carb. Thanks for any input that you can offer me . Peace

I have run the small holley witout a reg and worked fine, that carb is just a modded holley and should be fine when tuned for your application....some of those are drag race set ups that may need some tuning to get dialed in...Rob

Many fuel pumps in that range are designed to dead head. If the Mallory guy said the pump is designed for it, I wouldn't worry at all.
I've ran many setups this way.

The mallory 4140 requires a regulator, a bypassing regulator is not needed. The 4140 has an internal bypass that breaks open at 14 psi.
