external vs. internal hydraulic steering
how much sense makes an external steering? Mine is internal one and a guy from another forum told me i should "upgrade" it to external. is the external more accurate? more direct? where you would recommend it?

External steering is either add on or full hydraulic. Either way it is sfaer at higher speeds. Any boat running over 70mph should have hyd steering.
Your steering is most likely a stock merc rack & pinion cable sytem with power assist. |

These drives- Weisman #6 ASD New* Ilmor Indy NXT SCX & Imco Transom ITS-& Bravo 1 XR Are all REAL internal Hydraulic steering along with a few others. You could upgrade to an ITS - but thats expensive. If I were you Id look at dual external hydraulic rams in Kit form. If you have a 32 Baja thats to big for a single ram IMO. WIth out this additional level of drive control you risk a steering failure, and will wear the gimbals prematurely. look at this as a safety investment and the Wife/Girlfriend unit go along. first i will try my stock merc sysstem if this workes good enough for me. later on i could think about upgrading to full hydraulic. CCp offers a imco system for 2.400,-
is the steering recommended on just one or on both drives? |
