Help with 500 HP Pistons

Hi - I have 2 500 Hp's (carb) that I'm rebuilding. One of them needs to go .030 over my machine shop is suggesting Keith Black hypereutectic pistons, part # kb17403-8. I''m going to run stock compression and a 612 lift cam (basicallrpy stock). I'm not going to run the enigines more than 5200 RPM's. has anybody ever used these pistons, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!:ernaehrung004:

While I have no experience with hypereutectic pistons, I would go for the few extra $$ and go for forged.

Go JE or SRP(made by JE) The SRP part # for .030 is 139482 Try CNC Motorsports or Competition Products.:drink:

I am just going to verify what the others said. The KB pistons are ok, but they will not hold up under any type of detonation, which is possible with the marginal fuel available now days. Spend a little extra and get the correct forged replacements.

The hypereutectic pistons are what are used in the 496 mags and HO's. They can't handle the heat like a forged piston. I would go with the SRP's.

I would also replace them in both engines.

We like to call them Hyper u cracked it, since they will crack with some detonation. They shatter like glass. As the others said JE, SRP, CP, or Mahle.
