Battery Question
 

I'm going to be replacing both of my boat batteries, & I have a question...
It had two deep cycle marine Interstate batteries, can I install one marine starting, & one deep cycle, or do will I have charging issues, being the deep cycle charges slower?

One more question...
Has anyone heard of or used Olympia Marine batteries? I went to Sports Academy to get Excide Marine batteries, but they only had smaller ones, & the Olympia line. I've not heard of them before, I was just wondering if anyone has any input on them.

I run three deep cycle group 24s that have lasted five seasons now.

I run the duralast 24 and 27 deep cycle and don't have any problems. I replace them every 2 years no matter what and have never been stranded.

run one starting battery and one deep cycle. but when you move the switch to all when running there is a problem. deep cycles like low amperage (trickle charging) and the starting battery will take what it can get. i am running dual maintnence free 750cca diesel batteries. 3 seasons now. and i dont maintain them during the winter.

I appreciate the input...I didn't think it was going to be that difficult to just replace batteries...:eek:

It really depends on how you're using the batteries. If you tend to run one down with the stereo and other stuff, go with a deep cycle for one battery. Regular marine starting batteries don't like to be run up and down a lot.

You will be ok running one of each. I did it for years. start and run on both then shut the boat off and switch to the deep cycle when you arrive at the bar, sandbar, anchor. You can not switch your battery switch while running unless you have wired in a field disconnect. as with anything there are many ways to wire a boat. To charge multiple batteries correctly can be complex and requires installation of a separate voltage regulator capable or charging at different rates. Just my 2 cents.
