How much cam with Lightning Headers?

Any idea how much cam I can use with Lightning headers on a 540? I believe the builder is talking in the 548 area, but I see some stuff on Lighning's website that is saying 240. Anyone have any experience?

I don't know what the 548 is??? If thats lift, its way small for a 540. The 240 is most likely the max recommended duration @ .050.

With the correct cam for a 5500rpm marine 540 engine, you shouldn't have a problem with Lightnings.

Sorry, I was indicating duration at .050 and the lightning website was indicating 240 and the builder was talking around 248. I mistyped in the prior post.

Call Bob Madera, he can hook you up. Nice guy like me......

In a 540ci, the 248* of duration should be ok. You really need to consider other factors such as overlap and lob sep as well. I agree, call Bob M and get a cam ground that is designed exactly for your application.

If you are worried about sucking water back into the engine, you can use the dry tailpipes that Lightning makes. I would need to look around the shop, but I may have a set of the dry tail pipes if you are interested.

Thanks. I would like to try without as it will get a lot louder with dry pipes. I also picked up a set of GGB Extreme 4" clamp on mufflers that would not fit on the dry pipes.

And it is a small town too. I live on the river just above Galeke landing. If you boat on the river here in town, you must boat above Stevens Point as I have not seen your boat either.
