baja outlaw hatch actuator
i have a 1993 baja outlaw and for the past season i had my actuator disconnected due to the fact that it would not open the hatch when the engine compartment was hot. i open it by hand (which sucks) it would open cold but very slow. it had a bracket hooked to the transom that had the actuator mounted to it about 6 inches out from the transom (tward the bow). it just seems to me that the actuator will have to work really hard to overcome the weight of the sundeck to get to the point of having an appropriate pivot point. all the better quality boats i'm around (hustler, fountain, cigarette, formula, donzi and such) the majority seem to have a long actuator that is hooked to the floor or between both engines to a stringer. then the actuator will lift up straight on the front of deck and all is good. my actuator may be weak but i think this design sucks. ill try and find a picture tonight to show but are there any solutions? the engine is so close to the rear seat that i could not put on there in the center and i dont know if it will bind being on one side or the other of the engine. anyone run across crap like this before?

It is mounted off to one side on my Hammer. Works fine.

My 27 Fountain had it mounted off to the side of the motor.

If you need one, I have a brand new one I bought & never installed. It is a few months old & came from Eddie Marine.

On my Baja, I replaced the factory one with the Eddie Marine one years ago. Not a single problem. It is mounted to floor. aprox. 1 foot from transom. Factory location and bracket.
