GLM exhaust: A good choice ?
Hello,
Now that its time to dump the rusty OEM exhausts on my 300 Tempest I am looking for a little more performance on a very reasonable price. My aim is on the GLM 58234 complete set, and I found the manifolds shaped very clever. However, I dont want to compare them with Eddie Marine or Performance Marine exhausts, which are more than twice expensive. My question is quiet simle: Has anyone of you got experiences with the GLM exhausts ? How is the quality, material and the craftsmanship? Thanks for reading and Thanks for your answers in advance . Greetings from the North of Germany Andreas ( Luko) |

Hello Kepp,
I found the N° for a complete set (both sides) of manifolds, 4'risers, spacers and bolts + gaskets at GLM homepage and at several other places like this one here : http://www.boatequipmentsuperstore.c...manifold-kits/ Dennis Moore did give me this number and I ordered the set with him today. In about two month I can tell a little more about the tuth, facing my hopes and fears about budget tuning. Thanks a lot for your posting nice rgds and happy skating in 2009 Andreas (Luko) |
cheaper alternative to other manifolds. decent quality. MUCH louder than OEM.

I run them on my 385ci SBC. No problems. I did have a problem with water leaking at the riser/manifold mounting flange. Turned out it was due to the powdercoating on the sealing surface. I sanded all the PC off to bare metal and it's sealed up fine ever since.
My risers are FastGlass 3" ID 4" OD stainless risers. I welded on 22" long extensions and the water and exhaust does not mix until inside the tips. I used them on my 415hp 502's. Quality seems fine. The paint wasn' real pretty, so I repainted them with nice epoxy paint. I didn't notice any real performance gain.

Hello again
the GLM ehaust came in some weeks ago, and I am N O T S A T I S F I E D with it. Why? The finish is poor, very poor, indeed! -Paint was peeling off the gasket areas, -on the collector (lower exh) the "2 halves" of the casting molds did not match, steps of <=4mm are visible, if you are looking into the gasports. -the gas and waterports were still clogged with sand-casting-residue. But I did not return them( too expensive) , nor dump them (to my regrett I am not rich enought to do this). but startet working on them : STEP 1 cleaning all the gasports with ab pneumatic grinder and gave them a better shape ( some would say porting job) STEP 2 glaspearl blasting, esp. of the waterports STEP 3 blowing all clean and STEP 4 flooding the waterports with antirust and paint again STEP 5 painting the rest of it I will tell you about the effects of the GLMkit + work on the Tempest 300 SBC , when I have tested it . This will take another few weeks, for sure Thanks for your interest nice rgds from the North of Germany Andreas (Luko) |
That's unfortunate, I hope you're able to make them work.
