advise on headers or maniflolds

Looking for headers or manifolds to replace stock to get more perfomance for a broke guy on a budget :ernaehrung004: thanks

I had good luck with the Dana's, nice piece, good flow, polished gives good bling, much cheaper than headers. I like headers the best but fewer potential long term issues with the Dana's and good price!

Kidnova 03-07-2009 08:59 AM

Absoulutly the best bang for the buck if they're still available.

How are the danas compared to stock gill, do they flow better and make more hp.

The gil's are a definite improvement and are very durable, the dana's are a bit more like headers as they keep the individual runners from coming together for a long distance. I believe they make something like 3 models according to horsepower. I got mine from Fred at Trick Marine...........maybe you ought to call someone else though.

Thats funny about Trick marine

DareDevil 03-07-2009 09:33 PM

New CMI 454, 502, 8.1 setup. Very competitive pricing.

x2 Vote for Dana Marine.

They make the same Hp on the top end as Lightning headers on an independant test on a 496HO.

The are seperate headers to just before the water enters at the end of the tailpipe, and they make three different sizes of tailpipes for different sizes of motors.

Absolutely loved mine on my last build.
Built to last.

I use EMI with long risers. Exhaust alone will not get you a big gain on a stock engine maybe 1 or 2 MPH. Exhaust is required for a cam upgrade. So doing the exhaust first is a good idea.

Sledge Hammer 03-09-2009 06:50 PM

I have a set of EMI Thunder manifolds with stainless risers set up for Silent Choice. $800. Take the Silent Choice and the Y pipe for another $200.

CPPerformance 03-09-2009 07:42 PM

We offer several different brands of performance and stock marine exhaust including Dana Marine and Stainless Marine. Every brand seems to have their own features for different applications. Feel free to give us a call and we can help you pick the system that is right for you.

Check out the online catalog here, first 35 pages have nothing but exhaust systems and accessories.

No new tailpipes or modifications needed with this exhaust, when used in place of the stock 8.1 system, including OEM silent choice systems.

Yes. We introduced a new system at the Miami and LA shows that replaces the stock Mercruiser without modifying or removing any existing tail pipe or sound choice systems.
Installs on 34.5" centers.

Sorry for the poor picture.

One other important item.

System pricing for satin near or at cast manifold levels.

That looks taller than the stock Mercrusier setup?

Can you shoot me a PM with the price for two set:drink:

jrz 03-12-2009 12:49 PM

We will quote MAP pricing, one of our distributors may be able to do even better.
The height is the same as the standard Merc riser, with the end of our tail at the same outlet dimension as the riser.

DareDevil 03-12-2009 12:59 PM

Yes, we build them. We would have to check the price with the longer tail. These headers will have less chance of water reversion on modified Merc HP engines that originally were equipped with E-Tops.
