Closed Loop winterizing question???

Hey Guys!

I was at the cottage this past weekend checking on things and ran into a buddy of mine who had just picked up his boat from Northern Ontario, Canada. It runs a closed loop cooled 454MPI, I had a look at the boat and noticed all the water pump and rad lines had been disconnected, as the boat was winterized I asked "if all the drain plugs where out of the block"? my neighbour told me "No, all the lines where disconnected and the coolant drained, if there was any left in it, it wouldn't be enough to do any harm"

I have heard and seen ALOT of blocks crack due to water in the block, is there any truth to this?, I thought perhaps the newer MPI motors had a coolant system that drained the block as well?. I would imagine if there are any isssues with the motor he would want to know BEFORE he goes boating in the Spring, so, I thought I would ask here!

Thanks in advance for any input!
Michael

If it has coolant in it then it shouldn't need to be drained anyway. All you need to drain is the sea pump, exhaust, oil/ps coolers and heat exchanger.
