Spilled Gas

Any of you fine folks have any tricks for keeping the gas from shooting out from the overflow and "wash" the side of my boat? (Yes, I know, stop pumping before it comes out....) But I am afraid that I will get a face/ear full as I try and listen.

Thanks:confused:

:D :D I just watch the gas pump and when I get to 50+ gallons I slow the flow down, only have a 62 gallon tank. I still spill some but nowhere near as much:rolleyes:

Grab a handful of paper towels and hold them lightly over the overflow vent. They'll absorb the fuel and still let air escape.

I can't remember where.. But someone makes a inline "whisltle" that you put inline on your vent hose. As air the escapes it whistles as soon as gas gets in it or passes through it, it stops whistleing telling you that gas is on THE WAY OUT LOL!

I thought that was the only way. You know you are full when gas comes shooting out at you or someone else coming up to talk to you.

Get one of those overflow bottles that stick on with suction cups. I think they are made by Davis. Stick it on and it seals over the vent. Anything that pukes out gets caught in the bottle. Boat US and West carry them.

I never fill up 20- 30 gallons does me fine I only fill up for an extra long run or winter storage, your hole shot might improve with less fuel, gas is heavy at 7 LBS per gallon

6 lbs per gallon, at least that's what they taught us in airplane school

I can hear mine start to vent air/vapor quite audibly through the overflow tube a little before fuel will actually spill. But I've seen others use the little suction cup bottle mentioned above and it seems to work great!
