My 12 year old Garmin 220 still works like the day it was new with no repairs done ever. Probably will get a new one to get the more viewable screen in sun light.

I had the Garmin 478 and it was ok, but not for $620 (current price on Amazon.com, but no tax no shipping fees) so I returned it. I'm looking at the Garmin GPSMAP 640 now, $225 or so more than the 478 but its touch screen, bigger and has automatic routing instead of just point to point nav like the 478 does as well as an improved interface. OR I might just wait until next spring to see what's available on the market then. Anyone have the 640?

My Garmin chartpotter 176 was on 24 hours a day for the past 7+ years. In the truck and on the boat. I wouldn't buy anything else.

I like my Garmin and have had no problems. My daughter has a Tom Tom and likes it. I have a Gaffrig GPS speedo and had to buy a new antenna after 5 years. Several use a Livorsi GPS speedo.

I have had 4 Garmins and they have all died within a year or two. Too many to be bad luck, they are simply not built well. Look elsewhere.
