E-85
Any one using e-85?If so what are the pros and cons of it
|
Do not use E85 in a boat, E10 is bad enough but that is all I can get. Alcohol absorbs moisture and separates from the fuel over time. On top of that is has a lower BTU output so you boat is slower.

You can't use E85 in a boat engine...or for that matter any engine that is not specifically tuned for it.

You still can't run it unless you tune the engine for it. It takes a lot more E85 than gasoline to make the power. You have to run a lot bigger jets or injectors to flow enough fuel.
It most likely can make more power and you can run more timing, but you will use 50% more fuel. You're also screwed if you run out on the water. |
My boat runs faster on Pure Gasoline that E10. I have never used E85 in anthing. I do know that they use the ethanol to boost the octane rating. But the BTU output is lower with ethanol. Maybe a petroleum expert will chime in.

If you look at all of the current cars out there that are E85 compatiable you'll find they are all using stainless steel fuel lines. Why because it eats through everything else. I find it hard to believe someone ids getting more out of E85 than the rest of the pump fuel. Leave the crap at the pump for those green guys that think there saving the world. Costs more provides no benefits other than cheaper at one time but now it costs more and you can't go as far. Give it a few more years and I'll bet you won't even find it. Oh ask the outboard guys about it and I'm sur you'll get an ear full

I was thinking of a cheaper way then racing gas if your boat was set up for it. but I was thinking it would eat your alm. fuel tank
