Tool Kit?, what do you guys carry????
Hey Guys
I am putting together a "tool kit" for a "worst case scenario" situation on my boat, its just a basic 24ft Outlaw with a 454 EFI/Bravo 1 set up, I boat mainly in the St Lawrence river area, so, I dont need to plan for any Transatlantic crossings or anything, but, wondered what you guys kept for tools/spares on board?, or what have you found you where glad to have [or WISH you had?] I am gonna carry a multimeter, some spare bulbs/fuses, and basic hand tools, as well as a spare prop, and prop "kit"/wrench, and maybe a spare water seperator and anything else you guys come up with As always, ANY input would be appreciated, maybe a few other boatters will get an idea or two from this thread as well. THANKS! |

Michael, have you been to your cottage lately?
River is open and the ships are running. Hurry up and splash the boat. Ken |
Get the medium size kits from Sears/depot/lowes and put it in a decent tool box. Some even come with a nice carry case. Most important is a quality #2 screwdriver, straite blade screwdriver, 9/16", 7/16", 3/8" wrenches and sockets. I like to keep a pair of old water pumps and housings on board and a pair of belts.

Don't forget a spare coil wire and a second set of prop nuts

Everything listed above...my tool kit takes at least 1 mph off my top end. But Iusually can fix anything that comes up.
Don't buy the cheap tool sets. More pain then they are worth. Craftsman, Kobalt, Stanley should be good enough. |
Not sure of your setup but I always kept an impeller/pump kit in storage just in case.
|
I carry all the basic tools. A full set of standard wrenches, short & long sockets, screwdrivers and a 15mm wrench for the power steering nut. Wire strippers, crimp tool, extra belts, quart of oil, quart of outdrive lube, trans fluid for power steering. I like to be prepaired for anything.
|
duct tape, sealer, small asst elect connects/wire/fuses, impeller, small asst screws, nuts and bolts, hose clamps, prop nut/wrench, test light, 1/4-3/4 combo wrench, 15mm wrench, 3/8-3/4 sockets a wratchet, 1", 3", 6" ext, 3/8 wobble adapter, razor blades, screwdriver w/interchangeable bits in handle, small socket set that can be used with the screwdriver, pick, spare engine

Ditto!! Plus extra belts, Impeller, spool of wire, test light, alligator clips and jumper cables!! |
Some GREAT idea's guys!, I too would gladly give up a MPH to make sure I had enough stuff to get home, besides, I boat about 10 mins from "My Way", so, its not like my old tub is gonna impress anyone, LOL!!
Minxguy, I was actually on the Island last weekend, Freakin' windmills everywhere!, river was open, so are bays, seen a few ships and a couple of guys in runabouts, but, I dont like going in the water this early, first of all its TOO damn cold!, ha ha and 2nd, I find there is always alot of junk floating in the water in the early spring. I am finishing up some wiring and lighting issues, and tweaking the stereo a bit, should have boat at "Bullet" engines in a week or two for a water test and quick "once over" hoping to be in the water first part of May, been a LONG winter!!!! Thanks for all the input guys!, and keep it coming, please Michael |
Considering that last fall there were no windmills, it is amazing how many, how fast went up.
Not to use this as a political post, the view has been destroyed. |
Since I have a mercruiser I carry a complete water pump, hose clamps, duct tape, solinoids, drive oil, pwr steering oil, engine oil, wire, fuses, bulbs assorted wrenches and screwdrivers, flashlight spare prop and thrust ring and nut and a spare plug. In my trailer toolbox, a jack a complete seal kit, 2 complete bearings, grease and a 4 way.

Ken:
Yeah, its horrible when you dock on the North side, you can see them for miles and miles, luckily we are South/East on the Island so, they aren't around us.................Yet! Its like most things, most people didn't want them, but, a few people with money did, so, they went up.........The same few people who wanted them got ALOT rich[er] and everyone else got an eyesore, oh well, this isn't the place to vent, so, I will shut up now, LOL!! I have got some awesome ideas from this post, and have started to put a tool kit together, I am not sure how I am gonna fit my Snap On Roller cabinet in a 24ft boat yet......Ha Ha Thanks for all the advice! Michael |

Oh, you were talking about the jumo pack:drink: I have never had to use mine for myself, but have used it many times at the ramp to help out fellow boaters, its good to have on board, and good karma to help people out at the ramp:ernaehrung004: |
