Pulley and alternator conversion
Converting Gen VI from serp to V belt. Do I use long or short water pump crank pulley?
Can alternator be moved from upper starboard to lower port? If so, what's required besides moving wiring and alternator bracket?? |
Noone knows an answer to these questions? Where's all the wrench heads?

Short pump Crank Pulley. Are you also running a cross-over / bypass instead of the circ pump?
You'll need a tripple groove pulley. You can move the alternator to lower port so long as there's nothing there already. I assume you are talking engine left, not your left while looking at the front of the engine? You can use the aftermarket 'low-mount' alternator kits around that also fit the short pump pulley, but it's best to do some measuring first or make up some dummy brackets and trial fit it all - trust me! If you have a circ pump as well, the low mount alt usually uses the same belt and groove so make sure they line up. Although not an ideal solution because if you lose that one belt you're screwed. Good luck! |
I am using a crossover. You are 100% sure the short pump pulley is correct? I am going to order this week and I want to make sure I get the right ones.

Yes I am, I just went through all this myself so I know from experience. I have a spare LWP pulley now too!
This pic isn't my motor, but I used this pic as a visual reference for placement etc. Good Luck! |
