roller lifters hours ??

How many hours can be safe on my 2000 hp 500 roller lifters , they look in great shape with 400 hrs on them.

If all the rollers are in good condition, turn freely, and are not loose, I'm not sure they have a life limit.
but I'm sure others with more info: will chime in.

Airpacker 04-15-2009 10:58 AM

they would be in the scrap bin if they were mine.

spazboz 04-15-2009 11:01 AM

Personally, I can't believe they lasted that long in a 2000 horsepower 500 cid engine! :evilb:

Sorry, I've been sick and cooped up in the house for 2 days!

It's not the roller thet goes away it's the tie bar holding them together. I would buy new ones, especially if you are putting a new cam in

mine are the old style lifter no tie bar just a dog bone that sits down over them to stay in place.

JMPH 04-15-2009 03:23 PM

I would think in 2000 they are the late 500 hp and may be the updated lifter.. still you have alot of hours on them and would replace

rssteiny 04-15-2009 05:43 PM

If they wasent $1100.00 for 2 sets i would not be asking.

thanks guys

MER Performance 04-15-2009 07:10 PM

Thats not a bad price for 2 sets, you can get a good dogbone lifter thats not OEM thats around $635 I'am not going to pitch you a sale for them, so I'll refer you to RM Builder he's a friend of mine. By the way at 500 hrs they need replaced and the wheel bearings do wear, just see how much side to side clearance you have and how much you can twist the wheel against the bearing and shaft.

In many cases with a hydrolic roller cams you can use solid roller lifters if you want. I have several engines with many hours on them and they are much cheaper. You just tighten the lash a bit like .010 on the int. and exh. I learned this from More Power Racing many years ago, just north of Grand Rapids, MI.

When I bought my boat many years ago More Power did this to my engines with about 100 hours on them 32 broken valve springs in both motors. I wouldn't do it. Just my $.02

Wow Mark,
That's the first I have heard of any problems. Sounds like there was a coil bind issue or something. What did you do to solve the problem. I appreciate hearing your problem though as it will not go ignored for future builds. Did they do the complete engines? Also what did they do or say about the problem.

Put the old one's on e-bay.

When I replaced mine in my HP500's
a few years ago, I put them on e-bay,
stated the hours, the application,
ended up selling both sets for $ 400

They didn't appear to have anything
wrong with them either, it's just that
I went through the process of having
one come apart a few years before
this, and didn't want to risk it again.

The owner before me had the motors buit it looked like a complete refresh of the heads, bearing rings etc. looking at his build sheets.
I had my local builder put in Hydraulic rollers and replaced all the springs new bearings etc because all the metal that went through the motor. We check for coil bind and found none. My guy said said it was possibly harmonics
