Best upgrade options for 330hp 454....

I have a carb'd 330HP 454 in the Baja, just wondering what are some good upgrades for the money.

Thanks!!!

no matter what you do, you will need to upgrade the exhaust. So probably start there. not the most inexpensive upgrade, but will need to be done.

What do you recommend for exhaust?

I run Stainless Marine. Suppose to be one of the better manifold style exhaust on the market. Do a search on the tech forum for "330 on roids"

Rookie is correct regarding the exhaust however you can still make gains with your stock exhaust. let me know what type of budget you have to work with. I had a 89 challenger and did many test with and without after market exhaust. Just know that improved exhaust is needed if you plan on going much over 420 HP. Just don't expect any gains with improved exhaust and your engine stock however is a plus for future builds.

Yes, exhaust should be the first upgrade. If you are planning on doing a cam upgrade later, get long risers.

What is a good header for this motor? Direct replacement for through hull with no silent choice.

A part number to go with the header would be great.

I use the Eddie Marine with the long risers. All the info is online. I am sure others will chime in with what they use.

I used Stainless Marine with long risers on my old ' 88 Formula 454 blower motor with great results. Every one else is correct, this should be your first building block.

If it can't breathe, it can't make horse power!

Started with '89 mark4 330's. Gil exhaust, square port heads, stock alum dual plane manifold (Merc), fluid dampner, removed water circulating pump, added crossover, bored 30 over, completly "rollerized engine", billitt cam (custom ground to my application), 9 1/4 corrected compression, 750 eldebrock marine carbs, KB pistons. Very basic "old school" engine build to Marine specs "NOT" automotive.
These were buil by a reputable shop that specializes in circle track and marine engines. Dynoed at 469 Hp and dependable as day long with good idle. 159 hrs on them without problem.
Hope this helps. You do not have to go overboard to get decent HP. Combination/components are key. Bigger is not always better.
