What's the best way to completely drain the antifreeze on a 496?

Do yourself a favor and get the 18mm Snap-On 3/8 drive chrome universal socket 6 point....

It will get in there to take out the plugs because both sides are hard to get to in the boat.

There's only one on each side. They are 6 point black plugs with female allen patterens in them. I can't remember what size the allen is but it will twist off easily anyway. I found the 18 universal much easier. Hope that helps.

Part number FSUM18A

Well done!! Not enough guys do preventative maintenance and then wonder why they are stranded or miss a weekend.

Enjoy the boat!!

I have a 2003 and now i will change mine too. I heard there were issues with that antifreeze.

The only issue with DexCool is that if there is a leak somewhere and it's exposed to a lot of oxygen, it tends to harden and clog the tiny orifices in a road car/truck radiator.

The orifices in the 496 heat exchanger are way huge in comparison and therefore would not cause a problem. Although, a leak anywhere on anything is not good.

It does have a five year recommendation.
